Sagarmatha National Park

Established in the year of 1976, Sagarmatha National Park is the first national park of Nepal which is located in the Solukhumbu district of Nepal and occupies a total land area of 1,148 square km. Inside the territorial boundaries of this national park, one can find a varying height elevation of 2,845 m to 8,848 m which makes it one of the most diverse places to travel. Even though the drastic rise in elevation restricts the growth of vegetation, trekkers can find several forested zones of pine, juniper, bamboo and rhododendron forests. Likewise, the national park is the natural habitat for many living species of birds and animals. You can see Himalayan Monal, snow leopards, musk deer and even the rare Red panda here if you’re lucky enough.

Gokyo Lakes

One of the most rarely visited natural wonders of Everest region is the serene Gokyo Lakes which are situated at an altitude ranging between 4,700 m – 5,000 m above sea level. Due to which it is also the highest freshwater lake system in the world & it comprises six different varying lakes among which the Thonak Lake is the largest among all. Many trekkers take a direct route to the Everest Base Camp and miss their opportunity to visit Gokyo Lakes. But for those who decide to trek to the eastern shores of Gokyo valley, they can witness one of the most picturesque sight of the entire Everest region from atop Gokyo-Ri which lies adjacent to the Gokyo Lakes. Trust me, a trek to the Gokyo lakes is totally worth it!

Tengboche Monastery

Next is the revered Buddhist gompa of Tengboche Monastery which is located at the elevation of 3,867 meters and is also the largest monastery in the entire Khumbu region. Being established in 1916, Tengboche Monastery can be reached easily from Namche bazaar so it can be a worthwhile venture to visit and explore the magnificent monastery during your visit to the Everest region. Another highlight of Tengboche Monastery is that, if your travel plans align correctly then during the months of October and November, trekkers can witness the most important festival of Sherpa people which is also referred to as the “Mani Rimdu Festival”. For this reason alone, nearly 15,000 tourists seem to visit Tengboche Monastery each year.

Kala Patthar

A popular landmark located near to the Mt. Everest is the stunning Kala Patthar which is just above a place called Gorakshep. Trekkers usually tend to hike up the Kala Patthar early in the morning to get a breathtaking panoramic view of the Himalayas as the morning sunlight slowly touches down these massif snowcapped statures. Atop Kala Patthar, trekkers can see Mt. Everest, Mt. Nuptse and Mt. Changtse. Not only that but if you take a look at the northern flank one can even see the glimpses of Mt. Lhotse too. Another fun fact about this place is that the world’s highest webcam called the “Mount Everest Webcam” lies here.
