What permits do I need to trek Everest?

Everest Base Camp Trek, a dream destination for explorers worldwide. This journey offers spectacular panoramic Himalayan views, unique and incredible culture, diverse flora and fauna, religious shrines, thrilling mountain flights over the snow-white peaks, and several others.

Being a popular trek, we need to know the terms, conditions, regulations, and permits required there. As the country is implementing the system of Federal Democratic one along with decentralization, a new permit system has been applied there. Trekker’s Information Management System (TIMS) is no longer required there. In the Khumbu section, a new entry permit system has replaced the old trekking permit.

Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entrance Permit

Replacing an existing Trekker’s Information Management System (TIMS), this permit was implemented on 1st October 2018. This Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality collects NPR 2,000 per person from each foreigner. Once you get in Lukla, you will get this. If you are trekking from Jiri or Salleri, you will get this permit in Monjo.

Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit

As you are entering Sagarmatha National Park, you need to have an extra permit. For this permit, you have two options: either in Kathmandu at Nepal Tourism Board or Park Entrance Gate in Monjo. It costs NPR 3,000 per person. The latter is more convenient than that of the former one.

Note: If you are trekking Everest Base Camp following the classic route from Jiri, you need an additional permit for Gaurishankar Conservation Area. It costs NPR, 3,000 each person. This permit is issued by Nepal Tourism Board, Kathmandu. Moreover, you need not obtain any permits in Helicopter Tour.
