Pasang Lhamu Sherpa Akita Awarded as National Geographic Adventurer of the Year
Nepali Mountaineer Pasang Lhamu Akita was awarded with the National Geographic’s adventure of the year award.
She was chosen by the audience voting system among the 10 participants for the award. Belonging from the Solukhumbu region, Pasang is also Nepal’s first female mountaineering instructor.
National Geographic blog has stated that this year, People’s choice award has turned all he adventure stereotypes upside down. The meaning of adventure is not limited to self discovery and journeys of privileged ones; Pasang’s commitment and hard work redefines that adventure is also the process of exploration along with conservation, community building and act of humanitarianism.
Pasang, grew up around the foothills of Everest Himalayas at Lukla. She lost both of her parents at her early age of 15 with responsibility to take care of her younger sister. She took the hurdles of her life as a stepping stone and reached top of the world at summit of Everest.
And with her act of humanitarianism, she immediately involved herself in earthquake relief activities and still she is continuously working to bring the positive change in lives of those people who suffered great loss in last year’s April earthquake.
She is Pasang Lhamu Sherpa Akita. She is brave. She takes hurdles of her life as stepping stone and helps other people. Be Like Pasang.
